UEM-MOASIS/ Jembi are pleased to have hosted the new CDC Deputy Director for a meet and greet at the UEM- MOASIS offices in Maputo, Mozambique.
Maputo, 31st August 2015 – The new CDC Deputy Director, Dr. Omer Khan, recently visited the UEM-MOASIS/Jembi office in Maputo for a meet and greet with the staff. As a representative of one of the main funders for UEM-MOASIS and Jembi partnership projects, Dr. Omer Khan was introduced to the organisation’s key health information system projects and other initiatives explored by UEM-MOASIS/Jembi in Mozambique.
In this light, Dr. Alessandro Campione, Jembi’s Mozambique Programme Director, highlighted some of the projects that have been producing tangible results in the past 5 years and have paved the way for further engagement, in the new cooperative agreement for the next 5 years to support the UEM-MOASIS project and strengthening the Information Systems of crucial national institutions such as the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, the Ministry of Justice and the National Institute of Statistics.
Some of the key projects mentioned during the encounter include, but are not limited to: SIS-MA, the new national health monitoring and evaluation system entirely developed by UEM-Moasis/Jembi with the MoH and implemented nationally in more than 130 districts with IT technicians allocated in the provinces for constant technical support and maintenance; SIS-ROH, the death registration system currently active in 44 sites nationwide and producing data used for the national mortality data analysis reports since 2009; SIBI, the individual based system registering patients with chronic diseases using the OpenMRS platform in Maputo City Hospitals.
Furthermore, the next steps for UEM-MOASIS/Jembi projects in Mozambique were briefly discussed, including the proposal to create an environment for systems integration among various governmental information structures in Mozambique through OpenHIE, a project aimed at facilitating information exchange and interoperability among systems.
