As part of its mission to build local capacity in health information systems, the Jembi-MOASIS team conducted a training session on ICD-10 with health and statistics professionals from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and started continued on-the-job training for DIS staff on mortality data analysis using SIS-ROH database.
Maputo, Mozambique – March 2015 – Dr. Roberta Pastore (Jembi HIS specialist) facilitated a training session on International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision (ICD-10) which aims to strengthen local capacity in the analysis and interpretation of mortality data retrieved from SIS-ROH. The training session took place at the Mozambique Ministry of Health and was attended by 16 participants, which included health care professionals and statistics technicians from the MOH, and specific Jembi-Moasis staff.
The training session covered important aspects such as: the introduction of ICD-10 classification and codes, its use in the health sector and vital statistics, as well as use of the ICD-10 manuals, the rules for the selection of underlying cause of death, guidance on codification for specific mortality cases, and data quality control using real examples of data quality problems in the SIS-ROH database.\
Following ICD-10 training, Jembi-MOASIS continued with on-the-job training for MOH-DIS staff on analysis of SIS-ROH database aiming to build full capacity to elaborate and interpret national statistics on causes of death.
